Glass Roofs - Many early glass roofs do not have glass that has any special effects on it installed in their conservatories, this means that they can very well suffer from extreme overheating and glare. Anyone that is having a new conservatory should think very carefully about what type of glass is installed in the roof. When glass roofs haven’t had any treated glass installed we can fix films to the glass on the inside of the conservatory which will both deflect heat and reduce glare if this is required.
Where glass roofs have been glazed with Aktive blue or similar and K glass or similar it is still possible to fix a film to the internal pane of glass but it can only reduce glare and not reduce the heat. The glass is likely to break if a heat reducing film is fixed to it if it has already got treatments on it, therefore it is very important to know what type of glazing is in the roof.
If the units are failing and need replacing but the conservatory has always had a problem with overheating and glare it may be worth considering Reflex glass which can be switched on and off according to the weather. As always due to this type of glass being relatively new to the market it is very expensive.
Polycarbonate Roofs - The majority of conservatories have this type of glazing in the roof as opposed to glass. Foils or blinds can be added to the polycarbonate to reflect the sun in the summer and to retain heat in the colder months.
The foils are by far the more favourable option as this eliminates the heat from the conservatory as it works, by deflecting the suns rays from foil strips inserted into the outer skin of the polycarbonate. Fortunately this can be carried out after the conservatory has been erected with no major disruption.
It is quite a long tedious process on the part of the fitter; however we comfort ourselves with the knowledge that you'll be able to use your conservatory more often once the foils are in place. The foils come in a choice of colours and can deflect as much as 80% to 85% of the sun's heat, and up to 99% of the aging UV rays.
Replacement Roofs - We are fully equipped to completely replace a roof If there is a problem with a leaking roof or damaged roof panels or even an ongoing maintenance problem.
We can always give customers a price for completely replacing the roof on their conservatory with a uPVC one glazed with either glass or polycarbonate.
